History
Gamers come from all walks of life, from many age groups and from all over the world. Everyone has their own memories on how they got started with playing games, but the video game medium has its own history. Video games, in comparison to books, movies, and other forms of entertainment, are the new kid on the block. In the 1940s, the militaries of the world employed cathode ray tube-based defense systems that were later used for the inspiration for the earliest and simplest games. It wasn't until 1971 that the first commercial video game was released, which was called Computer Space(Princeton University). This first game helped set the pace for nearly the next 50 years, creating a culture that prides itself on being up-to-date on the latest technology and games and being the best at the hottest video game. From the Atari to Nintendo, from the first Xbox and Playstation to the powerful machines that now sit in millions of living rooms world wide, the machines themselves have grown in power and function and the gamers who play them have become further engrained in their own virtual worlds, that have their own customs, their own mannerisms, and their own communication styles.
